Consumer Alert: Email Scam about EFTPS Tax Payments

So, I’m sitting in Barnes and Noble reading emails on my iPad and this pops up:

Your Federal Tax Payment ID: 01037512 has been rejected.
Return Reason Code R21 – The identification number used in the Company Identification Field is not valid.

Please, check the attached file and refer to Code R21 to get details about your company payment in transaction contacts section.

EFTPS:
The Electronic Federal Tax Payment System
PLEASE NOTE: Your tax payment is due regardless of EFTPS online availability. In case of an emergency, you can always make your tax payment by calling the EFTPS.

Immediately I knew it was a scam because the IRS does not do business over email. Period. I did a Google search on EFTPS and people everywhere are falling for this scam. Don’t you fall for it. If you have questions about IRS payments, go directly to the IRS.
